Council approves $111,480 change order for Sampson Park work; CDBG applications filed for other parks

Brookhaven Borough Council voted Jan. 6 to approve change order No. 1 on the Sampson Park construction contract to add several bid alternates, producing a net increase of $111,480.85.
The change order includes: a net deduct to relocate the batting cage ($7,697.45), a storage garage ($56,287.20), power to one storage shed ($95,922.00) and relocation of a second storage shed ($3,456.00). Council approved the change order by voice vote after a motion and second.
Council member Catania reported that the retaining wall at Memorial Park field 3 had been substantially completed by JMC Contractors and that borough staff had submitted community development block grant applications to the county for improvements at Somerville Park and the Betty Kelly Memorial walking trail; grant results are expected in April or May.
Why it matters: The change order advances the Sampson Park contract and commits additional borough funds; CDBG applications, if successful, would bring county funding for local park and trail improvements.
"When the project was bid, it included four alternates... council will need to approve that change order," Catania said during the meeting.
