The Decatur County Area Planning Commission voted to forward a favorable recommendation to the County Commissioners for a petition by Cameron Tipton to rezone approximately 2.99 acres from A1 to A2 to allow construction of a single-family detached dwelling.
The property, owned by the petitioner, is located north of 7215 South County Road 900 West in Greensburg, Jackson Township. The petition was filed under Decatur County ordinance Article 9, Sections 915 and 927.
Petitioner Cameron Tipton told the commission he plans to build a single-family home and described a washout area near the northern border of the lot that influenced driveway placement: “going that direction, we're kinda hoping to avoid wash up of our our driveway,” Tipton said. The commission and staff reviewed the application and found it met the standard prerequisites listed in the packet. No neighboring property owners spoke in opposition during the public-comment period.
Commission members moved to vote on Petition 2025-1. The meeting record shows the commission read the votes aloud: Brad Schutte, Ryan Penelli, Tom Cherry, Paul Stone, Thomas Hunter and Scott Smith each registered a yes during the roll-call readout. The APC recorded a unanimous favorable recommendation; the commission told Tipton the next step is a County Commissioners’ meeting where final approval will be decided and that he should remain in contact with the county office to obtain building permits once approval is final.
The APC’s action is an advisory recommendation to the County Commissioners; final zoning approval and permit issuance are subject to county processes.
