Planning staff reports: safety element approved by state, Bonney Cove housing starts and Gold Line visioning grant progress

City planning staff updated the commission on the state’s approval of Glendora’s safety element, the start of construction on a 31-unit housing project near Bonney Cove, progress on objective design guidelines and work on a Metro-funded Gold Line station visioning grant.
Before the public hearings, the Planning Division delivered multiple project updates to the commission on Jan. 7.
Community Development staff told commissioners the state approved Glendora’s updated safety element of the General Plan; staff said the safety element update is linked with the city’s local hazard mitigation plan and noted both will come to the commission and city council for action in the coming months. Staff also reported construction has begun on a 31-unit housing development near Bonney Cove and the 210 Freeway, with early earthmoving already under way.
On planning documents, staff said the objective design guidelines project is about 80% complete and will be returned to the commission for recommendation in the next few months. The planning division also noted progress on a Metro grant-funded long-range visioning project around the Gold Line station; staff said a final version will be presented to the commission later in the spring months. Assistant City Attorney Judy Vladi introduced herself as the new assistant city attorney and said she will provide legislative updates in the new year.
Staff asked commissioners to expect the safety element, objective design guidelines and Gold Line visioning items in future agendas; staff also noted the city has used contract planning assistance from Willdan for current-planning workload while filling staffing vacancies.
