County transit reports ridership growth, 2026 grant application in pipeline

Kim (Corey Camino’s director) presented the public-transportation quarterly report Jan. 7, saying the county provided 19,698 rides in the quarter, an increase of 2,031 rides from the previous year. She said 10,581 of those rides originated in Grant County, the fleet drove 54,908 miles and staff logged 948 hours en route for the quarter.
The director said a biennial site visit (DOT audit) took place in late October and that the county expects a formal audit report by the end of the month. She reported park-and-ride service to the Silver City Harvest Fest (104 riders) and lower New Year’s Eve ridership (50 passengers) than expected.
Why it matters: the department is pursuing a Southwest Regional Transportation Planning Organization ranking for its 2026 grant application; the director said grant results would likely be available in April and that the award would be part of DOT’s 2026 funding packet. She told commissioners she would forward results when available.
