Hamilton County Commission announces Area 9 plan meeting, training date and spring cleanup plans

The Hamilton County Commission used part of its Jan. 8 agenda session to announce several upcoming meetings and outreach items: an Area 9 planning meeting the evening after the Jan. 8 session, a training class for commissioners on Jan. 23, and a proposed spring highway cleanup. Commissioners also asked for prayers and condolences for the family of a county employee, Richard Chapman.

The chairman (name not specified) said the "Hamilton area 9" planning meeting would be held "tomorrow evening from 6 till 8 at the fire training center on Snow Hill Road for Highway 58 to the voluntary fire department," and urged commissioners and the public to attend to give input on future planning in that rapidly growing area. The chairman noted area 9 is among the fastest growing parts of Hamilton County and encouraged commissioners to listen to constituent input.

The commission also announced there will be no commission meeting on Jan. 22 because January has a fifth Wednesday; instead commissioners were reminded of a CTAS (County Technical Assistance Service) training session on Jan. 23 at the McDaniel Building from 4 to 8 p.m. The chairman and other commissioners discussed the need for county highway debris cleanup after the holiday season and suggested organizing a spring cleanup; a staff member who coordinated a prior cleanup was thanked by name for past work.

Separately, Commissioner Highlander (name not specified) asked attendees to remember the family of a county secretary, Richard Chapman, in their prayers following her husband's passing and warned of inclement weather.

The commission adjourned the session and scheduled committee meetings to follow; the body will reconvene on Jan. 15 at 9:30 a.m.
