Roger Garcia elected chair; Mike Friend chosen vice chair of Douglas County commission

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously elected Commissioner Roger Garcia as chair and Commissioner Mike Friend as vice chair during its Jan. 7, 2025, meeting.
Commissioner Morgan formally nominated Garcia for chair, saying, “I nominate Roger Garcia as our chairman for 2025.” The nomination was seconded and carried 7-0. A subsequent nomination and vote installed Mike Friend as vice chair by the same unanimous margin.
The leadership votes followed the meeting’s opening roll call and precede routine business including the Board of Equalization and the consent agenda. Dan Esch, the county clerk, conducted the roll call at the start of the session.
The new chair and vice chair will serve for the ensuing year and preside over commission business, committee appointments and agenda management. The board held no other leadership contests during the meeting.
The commission moved immediately into Board of Equalization business after completing the elections.
