The Eden Prairie City Council on Jan. 7 completed its statutory annual organizational actions, approving the city’s official newspaper, meeting schedule, and a slate of appointments to boards, commissions and external organizations.
The council adopted a resolution designating the Eden Prairie Sun Sailor as the official city newspaper for 2025 and adopted the official meeting dates and times for council meetings, appointing Council Member Kathy Nelson as acting mayor per local custom for the year.
The council approved appointments to a range of bodies. Highlights included:
- Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA): council members appointed to serve as commissioners, with Ron Case appointed chair and Rick Geschow appointed executive director, and Kathy Nelson as secretary. - Suburban Rate Authority: Public Works Director Robert Ellis designated director and Council Member Mark Freiberg as alternate. - Fire Relief Association: Council Member Kathy Nelson and Finance Manager Tommy Wilson appointed to the Eden Prairie Fire Relief Association board of trustees. - National League of Cities: Mayor Ron Case appointed delegate with council members as alternates. - Municipal Legislative Commission: Mayor Ron Case and Council Member Lisa Toomey named delegates/alternates. - Southwest Cable Commission: Council Member Mark Freiberg appointed. - I-494 Commission: Council Member Lisa Toomey appointed. - Assistant Weed Inspector: Forestry and Natural Resources Supervisor Carly Whitner appointed assistant weed inspector, per state statute. - Southwest Transit Board: Council Member Lisa Toomey appointed as Eden Prairie’s representative for a two-year term. The council also nominated Greg Lieber — executive director of the Eden Prairie Community Foundation and current chair of the Human Rights and Diversity Commission — as the rider seat nominee; the Southwest Transit Board will vote on that appointment at its Jan. 16 meeting.
All listed appointments and resolutions were adopted by voice vote; no recorded roll-call tallies were provided in the transcript.
