Rainbow Market at 101 SW 31st Ave. receives compliance warning after loitering incidents

Rainbow Market, 101 Southwest 31st Avenue (case 24-03-02), was reviewed Jan. 9 by the Fort Lauderdale Nuisance Abatement Board. Police and board staff said recent visits showed the store largely clean with signage in place, but officers observed people loitering near or in the alley behind the store on one recent visit.

A detective told the board there were three recent police calls tied to the property since the last meeting: a trespass, a disturbance and a medical call. The detective said officers arrived within minutes on one visit and that the presence of people sitting in beach chairs or otherwise lingering “puts you out of compliance” if management does not act.

Board staff and the detective acknowledged the store’s efforts to stay clean and noted that a change in tenants at a nearby unit removed roughly “90%” of previous problems. The detective said he would not put the property formally out of compliance at this time and described the conversation as a warning, telling the business to keep the property clear and to call police when incidents occur.

The detective also said he had obtained a police call log from the Cypress Creek Police Department covering multiple dates back to September and reviewed camera footage showing the sequence of events that led officers to be called. Store representatives told the board they had cooperated with police and were removing problem tenants.

The board did not vote on enforcement action at the Jan. 9 meeting but warned the property owner to maintain proactive trespass enforcement and contact police promptly when people do not leave.
