District opts for $5,766 repair at JM Hill gym; full replacement estimated near $95,000

The East Stroudsburg Area SD Property and Facilities Committee on Jan. 8 approved forwarding a JM Hill gym-floor repair and recoat to the finance committee after staff recommended a limited repair now instead of full replacement.
Staff reported the gym floor had been sanded and refinished two years earlier and that four sections—about 20 square feet each—are now splintering in places where previous sanding thinned the surface. Staff said the sections will be replaced and refinished during the summer work window and that an interim repair and recoat priced at about $5,766 would address the immediate safety and usability concerns.
Staff also said it had solicited a quote for a full-floor replacement, which would be in the ballpark of $95,000. Given ongoing uncertainties about future construction needs at the school, staff recommended the lower-cost repair for now and to keep the full replacement on the summer capital-project list for later consideration.
Committee members asked whether the repaired floor would be safe for students through the school term; staff said necessary precautions were taken and the floor is safe until the planned summer work. The committee approved forwarding the repair estimate to finance.
