The Chesterfield City Council on Jan. 8 approved multiple procurement items for parks and recreation and advanced two ordinances on first reading.
The council accepted a proposal from Burn and Jones for construction of 16 bullpens and authorized the city administrator to execute an agreement not to exceed $519,000, and it authorized the purchase of eight pitching mounds from Perfect Mound at a cost of $40,284. The council approved that motion by roll-call vote, 7–0.
The council also accepted a proposal from Jeff Ellis & Associates for 2025 aquatic risk-management services, including lifeguard and supervisor training, at a cost of $9,530; that motion passed by roll-call vote, 7–0.
Council members said the bullpens are needed: one council member described watching children practice in muddy conditions and said the improvements are needed to protect players and patrons. The city administrator said the bullpen project is "below budget" in the posted memo.
On legislative business, the council held first readings for two bills with little debate. Bill 3530 (PZ 0 202024) amends the Unified Development Code by changing the zoning of a roughly 19.489-acre tract east of Etherton Road and south of Wings Corporate Drive from NU (non-urban) to PI (planned industrial); the council conducted the first reading and scheduled the second reading for the next meeting. Council members indicated no unresolved issues in committee and a second reading will be held at the next meeting.
Bill 3531 amends sections of city code (sections 130.10, 210.1970, 210.1980 and 235.150) related to the age of juveniles to align city ordinances with state law; the council approved the first reading with no recorded opposition.
All procurement votes and the first readings were approved without recorded dissents at the Jan. 8 meeting.
