Maintenance staff installed replacement parts for a heating unit in the Nitro High School weight room, but Appalachian Power cut service after surges or phasing issues caused the unit to fail, a district speaker said.
The district reported the power company would not be able to restore service until Wednesday next week, leaving the weight room without heat in the interim. “The new parts were installed. There's an issue with Appalachian Power. It's surging or phasing out or whatever electric does, and it was burning the unit up,” a staff speaker said.
Board members discussed the issue briefly and confirmed the location as the weight room at Nitro High School. No vote or formal action was recorded; the transcript records operational updates about repairs and utility coordination.
