City program to repair 30 homes will prioritize roofs; painting and ramps may face shortfalls

A staff member said the program team is collecting supplemental resources and referrals from agencies including USDA programs, Catholic Charities, Weatherization providers and Louisiana Housing Corporation to fill remaining needs.
Why it matters: Officials said roofs present the most immediate health and safety risk and that completing them first reduces the greatest exposure for residents. Staff warned that without extra funding some approved households could receive only partial repairs or be referred to partner agencies.
In council discussion, a resident and a councilmember asked whether unspent funds could be reallocated to households that need more than one repair — for example, a roof and a ramp. Staff replied they expect to use all available funds and that the program’s contingency allowance is the likely source for minor overruns, but cautioned that they do not want to raise residents’ expectations if additional dollars are not available.
Staff also described outreach plans to present the program’s “need packet” to potential partners to seek additional grant and nonprofit assistance for households that cannot be fully served within the current budget.
The council did not take a formal vote on this update. Staff asked residents with urgent needs to remain in contact for referral and follow-up.
