Arapahoe County schedules Jan. 27–28 Point‑in‑Time count across Tri Cities; volunteers sought

Cameron Shropshire, program administrator for housing and homelessness services for Arapahoe County, told the Tri Cities Homelessness Collaborative that the 2025 Point‑in‑Time (PIT) count will cover the Tri Cities area on the night of Jan. 27–28 and that volunteer recruitment is ongoing.
"The actual count will start on sundown on 27th and go through, sundown, on 28th," Shropshire said, adding that the county will cover areas throughout the Tri Cities as well as Sheridan and unincorporated Arapahoe County toward Aurora.
Shropshire said volunteers will receive an online sign-up link (the county’s Better Impact volunteer portal) and that the portal will close at the end of day Jan. 27. The county plans to give participants hygiene kits, nonperishable food items, hats and gloves, blankets and other winter items at sites as a thank-you and to provide immediate basic support. He also said the PIT team will provide information on county resources to people encountered during the count.
Shropshire said the county is coordinating with the Continuum of Care and local shelters to determine who uses HMIS and which shelters will open on the night of the count. He said coordination with local police departments is occurring through the county’s point‑of-contact so that known hot spots can be included on outreach routes.
Why it matters: the PIT count is a federally recognized annual point estimate of people experiencing homelessness and is used by local governments and service providers to allocate resources and plan services. County staff asked for volunteers and said the portal will close Jan. 27.
Shropshire said he would place the volunteer sign-up link in the meeting chat and share an email address for follow-up questions.
