The New Iberia City Council approved a number of resolutions and routine actions on Nov. 5. Items with limited debate were taken as a group; the meeting record shows motions, seconds and electronic votes but does not include roll-call tallies read aloud. Items approved included neighborhood ARPA awards, an appointment to the Parks & Recreation Commission, state project authorizations, local grant requests and demolition actions:
- ARPA Neighborhood Investment (Ordinance 2024-28): Council opened and closed a public hearing and approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to negotiate and execute an agreement with the West End Council of Neighborhood Association to participate in the city's "one block at a time" ARPA-funded housing renovation program. Council members confirmed procurement standards and that the neighborhood association will follow the city's procurement requirements.
- Appointment to Parks & Recreation Commission (Resolution 24134): Thomas Falco was appointed to fill the remainder of a five-year term on the New Iberia Parks & Recreation Commission; the appointee was present and the council voted to confirm.

- Award of City Park Upgrades Phase 2 contract (Resolution 24136): contract awarded to William Mfinger Corp Construction Incorporated for the skatepark (see separate article for discussion and budget notes).
- State project authorizations (Resolutions 24138 and 24139): Council authorized the mayor to execute documents related to multiple state projects administered through DOTD and MPO programs, including projects on LA 482/LA 3156 and LA 186/LA 182; staff explained these are reimbursement-based projects (80% state/20% local) and that project selection is determined by state agencies.
- LGAP request (Resolution 24140): Council requested $50,000 in Local Government Assistance Program funds to buy ditch-cutting equipment ("sidewinder" attachments) to support Public Works operations.
- Cooperative endeavor for PepperPlex (Resolution 24141): Council authorized the mayor to execute an agreement to accept approximately $28,000 in funds directed to the PepperPlex previously administered by an association; staff said funds must be used at the PepperPlex facility.
- Demolition and building code actions (Resolutions 24144, 24145, 24146): The council ordered demolition of severely blighted properties (including 1120 Saint Jude and others) and acknowledged clearance of 1737 Jennifer Street. In one case the owner of 239 Groce Street asked for time to obtain a permit and begin demolition; the council set a 60-day condition to show permit activity or the city will proceed.
All of the above motions passed by majority vote as recorded on the council's electronic voting machines; the transcript does not list vote tallies. Staff will prepare contract and grant documents and return as needed.
