Council awards William Mfinger Construction contract for City Park skatepark; construction budget reported at $416,000

The New Iberia City Council on Nov. 5 approved a resolution awarding a construction contract for City Park Upgrades Project Phase 2 (the skatepark) to William Mfinger Corp Construction Incorporated and authorized the mayor to sign related documents.
City staff said the total project budget was about $450,000 and that $416,000 remained as the allocated construction budget after prior demo work at the existing pool house. Staff told council there was only one specialized bidder for the concrete skatepark: such concrete skatepark builders are rare nationally, and the lone bidder was based in Lafayette.
Council members asked whether the contract included removal of the old skate park; staff said the current contract does not address removal of the old handmade skate structure and that the city would seek to donate it if possible because of liability concerns. Staff also discussed contractor availability, noting the vendor had a small crew and was working in Slidell; construction timing was expected by late summer if scheduling allowed, though staff said they are coordinating availability.
Council approved the resolution by electronic vote; a roll-call tally was not read into the record.
