Mayor Andy Reider asked the council Jan. 7 to direct staff to prepare a resolution to place a commemorative sign on Franz Anderson Street honoring Fire Chief Steve Brooks. The council approved the request unanimously and directed that the resolution be placed on the Jan. 21 consent agenda.
“My motion would be to direct staff to prepare a resolution placing a Commander Street name sign honoring Fire Chief Steve Brooks on Franz Street Southeast for council consideration on January 21, 2025,” Mayor Reider said. Speakers on the council praised Chief Brooks’ leadership and record of community service; one council member described him as “the true definition of a servant leader.”
City staff will draft the resolution for council consideration and include the item on the Jan. 21 consent calendar so the council may act without a separate public hearing unless members request otherwise.

Background: The city recently placed similar commemorative signs at other locations and the mayor said the proposed placement mirrors that prior practice; final wording on the sign will be determined in the resolution and staff drafting process.
