Police and social-services team presents $1,200 donation to It's About the Warrior Foundation for Robert Cursopp scholarship

Township staff and police representatives on Wednesday presented a $1,200 donation to It's About the Warrior Foundation to fund the Robert Cursopp Memorial scholarship.

Angela and Sergeant Halley described a community fundraiser carried out at local events including a tailgate, the Halloween parade and the township’s Christmas light-up night; staff also distributed flyers in the school-district weekly newsletter with the superintendent’s approval to promote the fundraiser. The township staff said winners — one from each school and two from the high school — will be notified and will receive a morning ride to school in a police vehicle as part of the scholarship recognition.

Steve Valleone, introduced in the meeting as the founder and president of It's About the Warrior Foundation and based in Wexford, accepted the donation and described the foundation’s veteran-focused programs, including mental-health and pain-management services and a local office with a physician partner. Valleone said the foundation had already earmarked funds for a named scholarship in memory of Rob (Robert) Cursopp and told council, “I made an executive order over my board of directors... we're gonna start a scholarship in his name.” He stated the foundation has set up two scholarships for $25,100 each for the next ten years (as reported in his remarks).

Council thanked the volunteers and staff for organizing the fundraiser. No formal council action was required for the presentation, which council received as an informational item.
