Members of the Nantucket Cemetery Commission reviewed progress on a documentary about the town's historic cemeteries and outlined outreach plans including a possible public premiere at the Dreamland Theater or an alternate drive-in screening, distribution to local television and organizations, and a hospital viewing option.
The commission reported having received a second rough cut of the film and said staff will send comments to the production team this week, aiming for a first public showing in June if scheduling allows. The film runs roughly 30 to 35 minutes in the current cut, and local musicians Mollie Glaser and Hudson Azu contributed original music for the project.
Commission members discussed distribution options: a Dreamland Theater screening, a drive-in showing, presentations at the Nantucket Historical Association or LHA, and posting the finished film to YouTube with a QR code for visitors at cemetery sites. The commission also discussed placing the video on screens at the nearby hospital, where waiting patients could view segments.
On funding, a speaker said she plans to direct royalties from related book sales to cover production-related payments and asked that $1,000 from cemetery-commission-related funds be made available to compensate composers/performers for original music. The commission discussed credits and fund-attribution language for the final production, noting that some funders (mentioned in the draft credits) must be acknowledged prominently.
Commissioners asked staff to continue coordinating screening logistics and credits and to clarify funding and credit language with the producer and any grant conditions; no formal vote to expend commission funds was recorded during the meeting.
