Three locals announce runs for Iberia Parish and New Iberia offices

Three residents announced campaigns during the council’s announcements section on Aug. 6.
David Groner, a lifelong New Iberia resident and practicing attorney, told the council he is a candidate for Iberia Parish Assessor. Groner outlined his legal and real-estate background, availability as a licensed title attorney, prior public-service roles including chairing the city’s police and fire civil service board and service on the Industrial Development Foundation, and experience on hospital and public-facilities boards. Groner spoke at length about assessor responsibilities, appraisal methods and concerns about flood insurance and fair-market valuations.
Richard Phillips announced his candidacy for New Iberia City Council seat District 5. Phillips described a 40-year career that includes architecture and government work in Jefferson Parish; he said he has people- and project-management experience and would bring that perspective to the council.
Ronald J. (Ron) Davis Sr. announced his campaign for New Iberia City Council District 5 as well. Davis described decades of community involvement in District 5, leadership roles in neighborhood associations, housing and utility employment, youth coaching and nonprofit work, and said he would focus on neighborhood revitalization and mental-health supports.
None of the announcements were formal council business; they were made under the meeting’s announcements/public-comment agenda item. No council action accompanied the announcements.
