Council members on Jan. 7 discussed a resident complaint about a traffic-signal delay captured on video at the intersection of East High and West High, facing east, near Clinton.
Council member Mast said a resident sent him a three-minute video showing a vehicle waiting to turn right. "They were on East High. They're on West High facing east at the intersection in Clinton... they did sit there for 3 minutes," Mast said. He said he uses the intersection daily and had not personally experienced that long a delay.
Other council members suggested the sensor that triggers the signal may not detect vehicles that stop too far behind the stop bar. Council member Wexler said, "If you pull up to the crosswalk, the light changes. So that one's definitely off." Council member West added that drivers should pull up to the stop bar or crosswalk for the sensor to register.
No formal action was taken; council members advised staff and drivers to be aware of sensor limitations and to report persistent problems. Council did not record a referral or formal investigation at the Jan. 7 meeting.
