Council approves floodplain publication, board appointments and vacates part of Campus Drive

The Fond du Lac City Council on Jan. 8, 2025 unanimously approved four resolutions covering a publication method for the city’s floodplain zoning ordinance, reappointments to municipal boards, an appointment to the Alcohol License Committee, and the vacation of a portion of Campus Drive east of the former University of Wisconsin–Fond du Lac campus.
City Attorney Ms. Hoffman told the council the floodplain zoning ordinance is lengthy and that state code allows an alternate publication process that avoids printing the entire ordinance in the newspaper so long as a copy is made available in the clerk’s office and on the city website. The council approved Resolution No. 9157 to certify and approve that publication process.
City Manager Mr. Moore introduced Resolution No. 9158, reappointing two people to the Board of Review and the Housing Authority board, and Resolution No. 9159, appointing a new member to the Alcohol License Committee; both motions passed unanimously.
City Engineer Mr. Johnson described Resolution No. 9160 as a final resolution to vacate the city right-of-way for a portion of Campus Drive on the east side of the former UW‑Fond du Lac campus, from approximately 225 feet west of North Prairie Road and Ducharme Parkway to North Prairie Road/Pine Lake Drive. Johnson said the roadway at issue was removed around 2002 and that the former right-of-way is now a trail through Godfrey Prairie. He said the county requested formal abandonment because the right-of-way should have been vacated years earlier; the city staff reported there are no utilities in the location and that the city will not run a road through that area going forward.
Several members clarified that the property is county land and that decisions about future use are for Fond du Lac County, not the city. President Breault and Mr. Johnson responded to public questions about whether the newly constructed cut-through road behind CD Smith was part of the action; both said it was not. The council approved the Campus Drive vacation by unanimous vote.
