Pasco resident urges county to assume maintenance of Saint Joe Road in Dade City

A Dade City resident told the MPO board a portion of Saint Joe Road within the city limits is failing and urged county takeover of maintenance.
Charles Carey of 16033 Ward's Court in Dade City addressed the board during public comment on Jan. 9 about persistent pavement failure on Saint Joe Road near 22nd Street inside the city limits.
Carey said a culvert near 22nd Street was replaced but the pavement continues to cave in. "This concerns Saint Joe Road, within the city limits, which should be county maintained, but unfortunately, it's not," he told the MPO. Carey said he had contacted city officials who inspected the site but had not fixed the problem and asked the county to consider taking over maintenance of the road.
Carey also suggested the state should consider the issue when it designs changes at the Saint Joe Road and 22nd Street intersection. He said he could not rely on the city to maintain the road and asked the board and county to act.
Board members acknowledged the comment. No formal action was recorded at the meeting.
