Council discusses Nichols Contracting elevator project and remodeling plans; staff to provide proposals this week

A resolution accepting Nichols Contracting to build an elevator (R‑33‑2025) was presented at the Jan. 6 work session alongside discussion of remodeling the nutrition center and council chambers.
Councilman Herron asked that his name and Councilwoman Jones' name be added as sponsors to the Nichols contracting resolution. Councilmembers also asked Nichols Contracting and Gordian representatives to attend a meeting so council could review pricing and scope.
Staff member Mr. Simpson said proposals and pricing for the elevator and nutrition center remodeling would be available by the end of the week. Representatives from Nichols Contracting told the council that combining several projects could produce cost savings.
Councilmembers said they preferred to address contractor presentations during the next public hearing meeting on Jan. 14 to give the public a chance to hear proposals, though some members asked for a separate meeting if needed.
No formal vote was recorded during the work session; staff said they would circulate contractor proposals and schedule presentations for the next meeting.
