The Administrator described the calendar as “balanced,” noting semester testing days and built‑in professional institute days: a winter break from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2 with an institute day Jan. 5, a second institute Feb. 27 timed to match a DuPage County institute, and spring break March 30 through April 6. “The set last day of school would be the 20th May,” the Administrator said, adding the district will still reserve five emergency days and that commencement would likely be held May 17.
The Administrator said an earlier last day is intentional so the district can accommodate major construction this spring and keep flexibility to shift the following year’s start date if projects run long. The calendar will still include late‑start/early‑release details that will be finalized later.
On planning, the Administrator outlined the strategic‑plan schedule: a Jan. 29 special meeting originally set for bond action will include a presentation by Dr. Madonia to begin shaping the plan’s vision and study areas. The board will continue the process with a March 19 board meeting and a committee meeting on March 12 to refine focus areas and assemble focus groups. The heart of the public engagement will be April 4 (Friday evening) and April 5 (Saturday), which the Administrator described as community workshops to develop goals and survey items; students will be invited largely from the superintendent’s advisory group.
From those sessions the administration intends to draft goals and supporting materials to present to the board for approval at the May meeting. The Administrator said the workshop format will likely include a Friday evening session and a Saturday morning session and that the board will not conduct regular business during those workshop dates; the sessions are for strategic‑planning work only.
