North Pocono approves up to $1.205 million roof restoration at Intermediate School; state grant covers bulk of cost

The North Pocono School District Board of Education voted to accept a proposal not to exceed $1,205,353.93, including an Alternate 1 of $43,846.81, from Weatherproofing Technologies Inc. for roof restoration at North Pocono Intermediate School.

Board member Ms. McLean moved to accept the proposal; Mrs. Morris seconded the motion. The board voted in favor, and the motion passed unanimously, 7–0.

The vote follows district staff disclosure that the project will be largely offset by a state grant. “We have received a facilities improvement grant from Pennsylvania Department of Community Development and it will offset that overall price of 1,200,000,” Doctor Powell said. “We received $950,000 in the grant. As part of the grant there is a 25% match from the district, so roughly, and don't quote me on exact number, but about 250, 255,000 will actually be the price the district will need to pay to restore all of the roofing at North Pocono Intermediate School.”

Board members asked for and received the funding breakdown during the discussion. The price cited by staff is based on the Keystone Purchasing Network contract KPN-A-202012-4, according to the motion paperwork presented to the board.

The board’s approval allows district staff to proceed with contracting under the named purchasing network pricing; there was no separate amendment to the scope recorded in the meeting. Implementation will proceed under the usual contracting steps; the board did not identify additional contingencies in the public motion.

Funding and next steps: district staff said the grant will cover $950,000; the district will provide the remaining roughly $250,000–$255,000 as the local match for the project. No exact district-match figure was finalized during the meeting.
