Medina City Council confirms appointments, readopts council rules at organizational meeting

The Medina City Council on Jan. 7, 2025, held its organizational meeting and unanimously confirmed the mayor’s and council’s slate of board and committee appointments and readopted Chapter 111 of the council rules.

The confirmations included appointments to boards and advisory bodies announced by the mayor: Logan Johnson to the Board of Zoning Appeals (term to 12/31/25); Steve Cooper as an alternate on the Board of Zoning Appeals (term to 12/31/28); and Bert Humble to the Community Investment Corporation (term to 12/31/26). The council also confirmed appointees to the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) Housing Council, Economic Development Committee, Shade Tree Commission, and the Utility Rate Review Commission as presented.

Council members then confirmed items placed by the council itself: access and CRA housing representatives, representatives to the regional NO-WACO group, and three appointments to the Community Investment Corporation named by the president of council. The council also approved its committee assignments, naming chairs and members for committees including Health, Safety and Sanitation; Public Properties; Emerging Technologies; Special Legislation; Sidewalks; and Water and Utilities.

As part of the meeting the council voted to readopt Chapter 111 of the Rules of Council. The readoption was moved and seconded during the meeting and carried by unanimous roll call.

All formal motions taken during the meeting passed on unanimous recorded votes of 6-0. The clerk conducted roll-call votes for each motion; affirmative votes were recorded for the six council members present. The meeting concluded with the presiding officer adjourning the session.
