The Riverton City Council voted Jan. 7 to approve a requested transfer of location for a retail liquor license held by Bridget and James Bunker (Bunks Barbecue) from 201 East Washington to 514 West Main Street, and to leave the license in nonoperational (parked) status pending sale.
The city received the transfer application on Dec. 17 and proper public notice was posted. A representative of Bunks Barbecue spoke during the public hearing and thanked city staff for expedited assistance; she said the building had gone under contract and that the food truck operation will continue on a limited basis while the restaurant sale is finalized. "I appreciate your hard work and good food," she said.
City staff clarified that a retail liquor license must be tied to a specified address, even if the license is parked and not actively serving alcohol, and that Wyoming allocates a limited number of retail licenses by population; once moved and retired the license may not be reissued automatically. The council approved the transfer after a motion by Councilman Eric Carr and a second by Councilwoman Carla Borders.
Ending: The transfer was approved for the remainder of the 2024–25 licensing term; a future transfer will be required when a new owner takes possession and seeks to activate the license under their name.
