The Connecticut State Advisory Council for Special Education Executive Committee on Jan. 8, 2025, finalized plans for a legislative breakfast scheduled for Jan. 22, confirming the room, arranging catering and agreeing how to circulate a flyer to legislators and contacts.
Chair Susan Yankee asked that the meeting flyer and corrected meeting link be distributed to the full council and to legislative contacts. A staff member said the room had been confirmed and that the committee was coordinating food with the venue: “I contacted the catering manager yesterday just to give him a little heads up … we are working on it, just to get everything set and ready to go.”
Holly (staff) said Representative Comey’s office suggested planning for about 50 attendees; the committee agreed to ask members to arrive early. The breakfast is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.; committee members were asked to be on site by about 10:45 a.m., with some volunteers arriving at 10:30 a.m. If weather forces a change, the alternate date is Feb. 26. The committee agreed that once Susan Yankee signs off on the flyer, staff will ask Representative Comey’s office to distribute it and will also share it with the council and with Laura Stephon, the council's legislative liaison.
Nut graf: The breakfast is intended as an outreach and recruitment opportunity to connect SAC members and stakeholders with legislators; logistics — room, flyer distribution, catering and a backup date — were the primary focus of the discussion.
Committee members said they would prepare a short presentation (about five minutes) to welcome attendees, provide the council’s priorities and invite legislators to follow-up. Staff will circulate both a short two‑page summary of priorities and printed copies of the annual report for distribution at the breakfast.
