Tuscaloosa City Council adopts election ordinances, annexation and multiple contracts

The Tuscaloosa City Council at its meeting adopted a package of ordinances, resolutions, appointments and contracts that set procedures for the 2025 municipal election, annexed roughly 5.6 acres at 5921 New Watermelon Road, amended parts of the municipal code and authorized multiple public works and professional services contracts.

The actions included establishing poll hours and qualification fees for the 2025 general municipal election, setting compensation for municipal election workers, appointing Brandy Johnson as chief election officer for the 2025 municipal election and appointing Hailey Abbott to assist the absentee election manager. Council members moved and seconded the measures and the clerk recorded the actions as adopted.

The council also approved an annexation of approximately 5.6 acres at 5921 New Watermelon Road to the city limits, amended Code section 16-12310 and sections 318 and 718 of the Tuscaloosa Code, and authorized budget amendments including an amendment to the Elevate Tuscaloosa fund budget and amendment 6 to the fiscal year 2025 general fund reserved for future improvements budget.
