Board members voted unanimously on the chair and vice-chair nominations and then accepted the liaison assignments without recorded opposition.
Superintendent Young and staff described the liaison roles as informal, not standing committees, intended to give two board members closer, topic-specific familiarity with the district’s strategic objectives ahead of a planned retreat. The district’s strategic plan runs 2022–2027 and is at its midpoint; staff said the liaisons will engage with cabinet members and operational leads to learn action plans tied to each strategic focus area.
Under the assignments announced publicly, Valdez was named liaison for Forward Forsyth and legislative outreach in addition to chair responsibilities; McCall was named liaison for homeless youth council work and operational excellence and social-emotional health; Grimes was assigned to a youth drug council liaison role; Tricia Hoyes was listed as the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) delegate and student attendance council liaison and also as a focus on staff recruiting and development; and Eshrewood was listed as a chamber of commerce liaison.
Board members emphasized the purpose of the informal assignments: to avoid situations where members first learn details of major initiatives only weeks before a vote and to give new board members greater context on ongoing work. The board did not create formal meeting dates or committees for the liaisons and described the arrangement as flexible for the coming months.
The meeting then moved from organizational actions into the board’s legislative priorities for 2025.
