Miss Melton, the county manager, told the board it would add an announcement of vacancies on boards and commissions and revise an agenda memo so that three appointments to the Iredell County Board of Adjustment (including two alternate slots) will be handled at the evening meeting rather than the two listed originally. She said one alternate seat remained without any application; applications had been received for the other seats and one application was a reappointment.
The board approved by consent an application from Emergency Management to the state Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) program for $35,000. Kent Green, emergency management staff, said the grant is an annual, noncompetitive award intended to offset Office of Emergency Management expenses, and that the local match is in kind and the grant funds go into the general fund. "It's noncompetitive, so it's guaranteed," Green said.
Also on the administrative agenda, staff provided a county construction projects update for information only, and the board approved minutes from prior Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 meetings by consent. The county manager noted a public hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. on Jan. 17 to consider rezoning approximately 1.769 acres on Schenville Road; Mr. Todd was noted as available to answer questions at the hearing.
Miss Melton reminded the board about the annual employee appreciation luncheon on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Statesville Civic Center.
Near the end of the pre-agenda session the board moved to go into closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(4) to discuss economic development. Chair (presiding officer) called for the motion: "Motion by Commissioner Stroud. All those in favor, say aye." The motion was met with an aye response and an expressed opposition, "Brown." The board then recessed into closed session for the economic development item.
