Trustees hear complaints about leaf-collection communications; ordinance date questioned

Trustee Schelske told the board she had received complaints from residents and a landscape company saying the village’s leaf-collection deadline and rules were not clearly communicated. “I had gotten a complaint about communication. And I just I'm wondering if we could somehow look at communication with public works about the leaves. It seems like there's a lot of people that weren't aware of the deadline,” Schelske said.
Schelske said she spoke with a lawn service that had been putting leaves in the parkway and the gutters; the contractor interpreted the village guidance differently and told the trustee the information on the village website was “really hidden.” “I honestly think it would be worth trying to contact with the major lawn services,” she said.
Schelske also asked whether the village’s ordinance date for leaf collection should be more flexible to reflect warmer weather patterns that keep leaves on trees longer. “I know we have an ordinance with a date in it, but I'm wondering if we need to look at something that's more flexible,” she said.
Manager Ewald and trustees discussed whether to follow up administratively or route the issue to the public works committee; Schelske said she would accept initial follow-up by staff and then escalate to committee as needed.
