Iredell County commissioners approve consent items, appointments and set public hearing for Project Nano

The Iredell County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 approved a bundle of administrative items on consent, confirmed several reappointments to advisory boards, announced vacancies for multiple boards and commissions, and set a public hearing for Project Nano on Feb. 4, 2025.
County management told the board it had reviewed an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) application for $35,000; the grant is noncompetitive and requires an in-kind local match. That request, along with updates on county construction projects and several sets of minutes from December meetings, was placed on the consent agenda and approved.
The board approved two Recreation Advisory Board appointments: the reappointment of Bobby Bridal and the appointment of Lauren Monroe (recommended by the Recreation Advisory Board). Commissioner Brown moved the recreation appointments and the measure carried unanimously.
The board also reappointed three members to the Iredell County Zoning Board of Adjustment: reappointments were approved for Tim Johnson and Bill Bridal (regular members), and Jonathan Madison was moved from an alternate position to a regular member. The board announced two alternate openings for the zoning board.
County management read a list of additional vacancies and encouraged residents to apply; applications will remain on file for six months. The clerk to the board, John Best, was singled out by county management for planning the employee appreciation luncheon set for Jan. 16 at the Statesville Civic Center.
During a brief closed-session follow-up, commissioners motioned to schedule a public hearing for Project Nano; Commissioner Stroud moved to call the hearing for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, and the motion passed.
