Council approves 2025 committee roster, reappoints Paula Klein and names mayor as regional planning representative

The Bryan City Council approved its 2025 committee slate and several board and representative appointments.
Council confirmed the following committee memberships as presented: Budget (Mary Leatherman and Steve), Finance and Audit (Steve and Jim), Wage (John and Rick), Tax Incentive Review (Jim and Steve), Negotiations (Rick and Jim), Revolving Loan Fund (Mary), and BIPAC (Mary as council president). The motion to approve the slate passed unanimously.
The council also added staff liaisons to the roster: Brian Wieland and Tiana Traxler as prevailing wage coordinators and Patrick Thorpe as ADA compliance officer. Council members noted that a wage analysis led by Tricia Lyons is expected to increase the committee's workload this year.
Separately, the council reappointed Paula Klein to a second term on the Parks and Recreation Board and appointed the mayor to serve as the city’s representative on the Maumee Valley Planning Organization executive council. Both actions passed on unanimous votes.
Council members discussed the time commitment for budget committee work, noting that the budget session typically spans a single day with several hours of pre-meeting preparation; a newer council member volunteered to serve on the budget committee this year. The council asked staff to recruit up to three additional community members for the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) housing panel and to proceed with mailing an informational letter to Eastland Estate residents about a planned Jan. 23 meeting to discuss subdivision street questions.
