Louisa County School Board re-elects chair, names vice chair and annual officers

The Louisa County School Board on Jan. 7 affirmed Charles Strickland as board chair and elected Gail Proffitt to serve as vice chair, approved clerk and deputy clerk appointments, set the regular meeting schedule for 2025 and authorized the clerk to sign warrants for the year.
Board members nominated and affirmed Strickland by acclamation after a motion and second. Gail Proffitt participated electronically and was approved as vice chair by acclamation. The board appointed Melissa Campbell as clerk and David Baker as deputy clerk for 2025. The board set regular meetings for the first Tuesday of each month, with regular sessions beginning at 7 p.m., and moved the November 4 meeting to Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, because of election day.
The board also moved to authorize the clerk, with the deputy clerk as backup, to issue and sign warrants for all school board financial obligations during 2025. Several members described the annual organizational items as routine; there was no extended debate recorded.
The organizational motions were taken at the start of the regular session; procedural approvals (motions, seconds and unanimous voice votes) were recorded for each item.
