A committee speaker said the program limits awards and the district may qualify for up to $500,000; the speaker said the district "definitely qualify for 400,000" and likely for the full $500,000 based on scoring criteria that favor projects near a closed coal plant. "We get almost all the points. In fact, we get extra points because there was a coal plant within 50 miles," the speaker said.
The committee asked the board to authorize the superintendent and a designated official to execute grant/loan documents; the speaker said the state has established a financing authority that provides a 0% loan until project completion, at which point the solar program repays the loan. The committee said a formal resolution to authorize application will be on the Jan. 21 voting agenda.
Committee members noted preliminary estimates indicate federal rebates and other incentives may reduce direct district cost to near zero; finance will provide figures in the committee packet at the voting meeting.
