Board committee advances Saint Lawrenceborough tax-reimbursement request; tax collector pay increase denied in straw poll

Committee materials show Saint Lawrenceborough requested reimbursement of $9,297.59; the board read the attached settlement statement and agreed to move the reimbursement request to the Jan. 21 voting agenda. "So it will become tax exempt, so this is a request basically to reimburse," a committee speaker said when introducing the item.
Exeter Township tax collector Christie Pearsall read a written request asking the board to raise compensation by $1 per bill, from $2 to $3, for the 2026–2029 term, noting the current rate has been in effect for at least eight years and that collectors receive no employee benefits. "We are respectfully asking for a $1 increase bringing our per bill compensation to $3 . . . This is a one-time increase for the '26 through '29 term and does include real estate, interims, and per capita taxes," Pearsall read.
Board members questioned how many bills each collector processes and compared Exeter's current rates with neighboring districts. After discussion, the board conducted a straw poll on whether members were interested in increasing compensation; the clerk recorded nine "no" responses. The solicitor noted changes to tax-collector compensation must be passed before the statutory filing window (and the board discussed options for adjusting or eliminating the per-capita tax and asked the solicitor to investigate legal and practical implications).
The Saint Lawrenceborough reimbursement and the KC Towing donation, the cybersecurity items and other committee recommendations were placed on the Jan. 21 voting agenda for formal action.
