Board committee advances two cybersecurity contracts and a donation to IT to the Jan. 21 agenda

Sheldon (IT) described an agreement with the Berks County Cybersecurity Services Consortium that would provide staff training, quarterly penetration testing and other services. Committee materials state the total consortium cost is $17,250; committee discussion noted this year's prorated cost and a budgeted line for ongoing service. "This agreement is going to provide our staff with some training to get some certifications in cyber security, as well as some pen testing ability," Sheldon said, adding the pen testing would be quarterly.
The committee also reviewed a cybersecurity platform purchase described in committee materials as totaling $28,683 with a prorated cost for the current year and a 25/26-year cost of $19,122. IT staff said the product is being procured through an intermediate unit to secure discounted pricing and onboarding support. Committee members asked about contract length and product updates; IT said the platform uses continuous updates and is typically sold on three-year terms.
Separately, the committee discussed a donation from KC Towing, Inc. of decommissioned devices offered to the IT department; the committee confirmed the donation must be accepted by board vote and moved the donation to the Jan. 21 agenda for formal action.
All three items were listed for placement on the Jan. 21 voting agenda so the full board can act.
