Commission reviews summer programming, signal-box art, Warm Up America and library updates

Members of the Stow City Arts Commission discussed several community-focused arts programs and library collaborations, including farmers market programming, a signal-box public art round, a women-in-art exhibit, Warm Up America blanket collection, and library facility updates.
The commission heard that Gary requested Arts Commission programming at the farmers market this summer; commissioners agreed to staff programming again and look for volunteers. Commission staff said the Woman in Art Showcase call for artists is open to neighboring communities, with a submission deadline the commission identified as Jan. 17. The commission also discussed planning a reception tied to the show and possible use of the newly opened community center.
Brooke (staff) explained the traffic-signal-box art replacement will be more complicated this year because Kent Road boxes will be replaced after repaving; the commission expects about 18 boxes in total, some with different dimensions and possibly staggered installation dates (some boxes on Fish Creek may be installed earlier and the Kent Road boxes replaced later). She said the Kent Road boxes are likely to be replaced around July.
Commissioners reviewed the Warm Up America project: the commission’s textile rectangles used in the tree lighting will be shipped to Warm Up America, which consolidates them into kits and redistributes them to organizations that convert them into blankets. The meeting record indicates over 1,600 rectangles were collected; staff said Warm Up America handles packaging and redistribution.
Library updates reported that The Works on Front Street will host an artists’ meetup on March 6 to celebrate the Summit Live 365 website’s 10-year anniversary; registration opens Jan. 27. The library also noted several new programs (adult Dungeons & Dragons, baby play dates, evening story time), the completion of a reading garden and pavilion, and that 24-hour book lockers had been ordered and were due to arrive within weeks.
No formal policies or contracts were approved during the discussion; commissioners agreed to follow up with volunteer lists and installation timing at the next meeting.
