At its Jan. 8 meeting the Henry County Council confirmed its regular meeting schedule and approved a detailed list of liaison assignments to county departments and boards.
The council voted to hold regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Members then reviewed and assigned liaison responsibilities for dozens of departments and outside boards, including the assessor, auditor, clerk, commissioners, EMS, highway, health department, EDC, RDC, memorial park board, 911, probation, sheriff's department liaisons and others. Several members volunteered for multiple liaisons; the final list was approved by a motion and second and recorded as passing 7–0.
County department heads addressed the council during the discussion and clarified the purpose of liaisons: to provide a point of contact, to review department budgets in advance of the formal budget process, and to help streamline communication. Department heads asked that liaisons work with them ahead of budget hearings so the liaison is familiar with departmental budget requests.
Council members also discussed the value of holding work sessions in the spring and summer ahead of the June 1 state deadline for budget submissions; members suggested scheduling work sessions and noted they could be added or canceled as needed. The council adopted the liaison list and the regular meeting date by voice vote.
