Henry County council approves financial commitment letter for statewide Community Crossings grant

The Henry County Council approved a financial commitment letter Jan. 8 enabling the county to apply for the Indiana Community Crossings matching grant program to fund chip seal paving projects.
County staff said the Community Crossings program accepts applications twice yearly and pays 75% of construction costs. The maximum grant award for the current cycle is $1,500,000, up from $1,000,000 in prior cycles. County staff told the council they intended to apply for about $22,000,000 in projects across the county to pursue the full award of $1,500,000 and asked that the council president sign the financial-commitment letter required by the state agency.
A council member moved to authorize the president to sign the letter; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. County staff said the county would bid the chip-seal work and that the commissioners had reviewed and approved the submittal earlier that day.
The action allows staff to submit the letter and complete the Community Crossings grant application; any successful award would require the county to provide the 25% local match at the time of construction.
