Chad Malecote was elected president of the Henry County Council on Jan. 8 following a roll-call vote at the council's organizational meeting.
The council opened nominations for president and council attorney Joel Harvey presided over that portion of the agenda. Chad Malecote was nominated and the nomination received a second. A roll-call vote followed, and Malecote received enough votes to be elected president. The council then proceeded to nominate and elect a vice president; Shannon Tom was nominated and seconded. Tom announced an abstention on the roll call for vice president; the motion to elect her carried by the members present.
The elections began with nominations and concluded on the roll-call tallies recorded during the meeting. Members present participating in the votes included Kennan Gray, Scott Kuntz, Jay Davis, Bobby Plummer, Mike Reagner and others who answered during the roll calls.
The council immediately turned to other organizational business after the elections.
The leadership changes were procedural votes required at the start of the council's calendar year and set the chair and vice chair for the council's 2025 meetings.
