Committee approves UV-lamp replacement and a new tow-behind compressor; older compressor declared surplus

The Geneva Committee of the Whole approved two equipment purchases intended to maintain plant operations and redundancy for the city's utilities divisions.
The committee authorized purchase of ultraviolet lamps, sleeves and O-rings from Xylem Water Solutions for $30,980 to replace end-of-life components in the wastewater-treatment plant’s UV disinfection system. Staff said the UV system disinfects final effluent before discharge to the Fox River per the city's discharge permit and that the lamps had reached the end of their useful life.
The committee also authorized purchase of a Bobcat PA450 tow-behind air compressor from O'Leary's Equipment in the amount of $70,923.70 under Sourcewell contract 020923-CEC. Staff said the compressor provides a redundant compressed-air source for the Geneva generation plant; the purchase will replace a tow-behind compressor in use since 1999. The existing Ingersoll Rand unit (unit number 1024) was declared surplus.
Superintendents Van Gescombe and Holton were present to answer member questions. Both items were approved by unanimous voice vote.
