Lemoore council certifies November election results; Patricia Matthews elected mayor

Lemoore City Council on Jan. 7 adopted Resolution 2025-1 certifying the results of the Nov. 5, 2024, municipal election, administered oaths to three newly elected councilmembers and selected Patricia Matthews as mayor and Frank Gornick as mayor pro tem.
The resolution recorded vote totals for three council districts: District B, Jonathan Brewster; District D, Jonathan Cruz; and District E, Patricia Matthews. Council voted to accept the resolution; the motion was made by Councilmember Frank Gornick and seconded by Councilmember Orth. Council recorded the motion as passing with four in favor.
The certification matters because it formalizes who will serve on the council and allows the body to proceed with its statutory duties for 2025. The council immediately administered oaths to the newly elected members before reorganizing leadership.
During the reorganization the council opened nominations for mayor. Councilmember Jonathan Brewster nominated Patricia Matthews; Councilmember Frank Gornick nominated himself. The council voted on the nominations in alphabetical order and approved Patricia Matthews as mayor by a 3–1 vote (Brewster — yes; Gornick — yes; Lyons — yes; Cruz — no). The council then nominated and approved Frank Gornick as mayor pro tem by unanimous vote after a motion from Councilmember Lyons and a second by Mayor Matthews.
City staff read the oath of office to each newly elected member; each responded “I do” after the oath. The administration of oaths followed the certification vote and preceded the reorganization vote.
The new leadership and seated councilmembers will carry forward agenda work for the year; no additional policy actions were taken as part of the reorganization.
