The commission unanimously approved a contract to rehabilitate a major wastewater lift station (Lift Station 317) after staff described reliability problems and recent odor complaints.
Dr. Callcott (utilities staff) told the commission the lift station is old and needs structural and pump replacement work to improve flow, capacity and reliability. He said staff has deployed a pilot odor-control system that has so far reduced complaints and that the city intends to buy a permanent odor-control system while the two-year rehabilitation contract proceeds in design and construction.
Staff said the rehabilitation includes structural repairs and pump replacements; a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) is being finalized with the construction team. Commissioners praised utilities staff for a fast response to recent odor complaints and approved the contract on a unanimous voice vote.
The project will be added to the capital-improvement program and staff will come back with contract details and a construction schedule; staff said they are also drafting a lift-station plan to assess other stations for future needs.
