Tooele County Planning and Zoning Commission elects officers, sets 2025 schedule and tables rezones to special meeting

The Tooele County Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 8 elected Commissioner Hope as chair and Commissioner Scott as vice chair, approved its 2025 meeting calendar with a change to the July date, set a special meeting for Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., and tabled pending rezoning requests until that special meeting.

The actions were handled by a series of motions that passed unanimously during the roughly 17-minute meeting. Commissioners also approved minutes from the Nov. 13, 2024 meeting. Commission members discussed the status of the commission's revised policies and procedures and reviewed annual training requirements, including open-meeting and conflict-of-interest materials staff said they would reissue.

Minutes and rezonings The commission voted to approve the minutes of the Nov. 13, 2024 meeting. Commissioners then moved to table the rezoning agenda item to the special meeting on Jan. 22; that motion was made by Commissioner Elton and seconded by Commissioner Stets and passed unanimously.

Policies and procedures Members raised questions about the Planning Commission policies and procedures adopted at a prior meeting. Several commissioners said they had not received final, circulated copies or some attachments. Staff agreed to resend the finalized policies and related materials and to confirm whether the formal minutes reflect the version that was approved.

Training requirements Staff member Trish told commissioners about required annual training available via links provided to the commission, including open-meetings and conflict-of-interest material. Commissioners were asked to forward training certificates to Tanya for tracking. Staff said Nikki was compiling the materials and would distribute the open-meetings and conflict-of-interest links. Commissioners noted a possible provision that attending 12 commission meetings during a year could count toward training; staff said they would confirm the specifics.

Follow-up Staff agreed to reissue the finalized planning commission policies and procedures and the links and documentation for required trainings. The commission will consider rezones at the special meeting on Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
