The Pine County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 elected Commissioner Josh Moore as board chair and Commissioner Matt Ludwig as vice chair, approved the board’s 2025 meeting schedule and adopted several routine consent items and appointments.
The organizational session opened at 10 a.m. and included roll-call votes on officer elections, committee assignments, the calendar of meetings for 2025 and approval of minutes and the consent agenda. County Administrator Dave Minkie presented additions to the regular agenda and staff materials for appointments.
Why it matters: the annual organizational actions set who will lead the board, allocate commissioner representation on joint boards and advisory groups, and establish the meeting cadence and procedural housekeeping that shape county business for the year.
Board leadership and schedule The board confirmed Josh Moore as chair; Moore earlier had been nominated from the floor. Commissioners then selected Matt Ludwig as vice chair after nominations and a roll-call. The board approved a calendar projecting the board will meet the first and third Tuesdays of each month, with other standing committees scheduled as noted in the packet.
Committee assignments and appointments Commissioners discussed and allocated dozens of standing and external committee seats (AMC committees, watershed groups, jobs and training boards, transit and library boards, parks and trails and others). Several commissioners volunteered or were penciled in for specific seats; the board approved the slate brought forward for the non–chair-appointed positions. As part of appointments the board reappointed Mary Lang and Ruth Carlson to the Extension Committee and approved the addition of Arrowhead Transit to the appointment list.
Minutes, consent agenda and appointments The board approved the Dec. 17, 2024 minutes and the consent agenda, which included routine reports (Pine County Land Surveyor monthly report, Pine County Zoning Board minutes) and committee/board reappointments. The board also approved the appointment of Carol VanderHawk to the East Central Regional Library Board to fill a vacant seat.
Next steps Administrators and staff will publish the finalized schedule and distribute committee rosters; commissioners asked staff to circulate calendars and confirm committee meeting logistics with newly assigned members. Several commissioners noted committees may adjust schedules to fit members’ availability.
