Bristol proclaims January 2025 Human Trafficking Prevention Month; local coalition accepts proclamation

The Bristol, Tennessee City Council proclaimed January 2025 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month and designated Jan. 11, 2025, as Human Trafficking Awareness Day, aligning the city with statewide and national observances.
Councilwoman Fire Robin read the proclamation at the Jan. 7 meeting, which described human trafficking and cited estimated prevalence figures included in the proclamation text: about 27.6 million people globally and as many as 2,100 victims in East Tennessee. The proclamation emphasized a coordinated community response that includes law enforcement, victims’ service providers, health-care professionals and volunteers.
Gracie Delaney, community care liaison for the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking (CCHT), accepted the proclamation on behalf of CCHT. Delaney told the council that trafficking in the region often differs from the popular image of stranger abduction, and she described local patterns the coalition encounters, including family and intimate-partner trafficking and exploitation driven by substance use or financial need. She said the coalition provides aftercare services across East Tennessee’s 33 counties and offers free training for schools, law enforcement and industry.
Delaney encouraged residents to wear blue on Jan. 11 to show awareness and said she would make brochures and business cards available after the meeting. The council signed the proclamation, which the mayor dated and signed at the meeting.
