The Homewood School District 153 Board of Education at its Jan. 6 meeting approved procedural and finance items and one hire in unanimous roll-call votes.
The board approved the minutes from the Dec. 16, 2024 regular meeting without changes. It then approved the consent agenda, which included authorization for the chief school business official to pay the district's usual and customary bills for February 2025 and a personnel report listing personnel actions.
On an action motion the board moved "upon the recommendation of the Chief School Business Official" to authorize the second payment of December 2024 bills and the first payment of January 2025 bills in an amount "not to exceed $2,000,314,342.77." The motion passed on a roll call recorded as seven ayes.
The board also approved the employment of Peter Beal as the evening custodian at James Hart effective Jan. 7, 2025. The superintendent's motion specified the hire was conditioned on a satisfactory criminal background report and, by no later than Feb. 1, 2025, receipt of evidence of proper legal qualifications for the position; the roll call on that motion was seven ayes.
Votes recorded in the meeting transcript list the following board members as voting yes: Miss Bethea; Mr. Schmidt; Mr. Zimmerman; Miss Scully; Mr. Booth; Mr. Bosch; and Miss Marks. All roll-call items passed and no board member recorded a nay or abstention during the votes noted in the transcript.
The board took no other policy votes at the meeting.
