Don Rasmussen, the city27s director of law, told the Findlay City Council on Jan. 7 that he will retire after more than 40 years of service to the city. Councilmembers and staff offered good wishes and said an open house will be scheduled.
Rasmussen spoke after the council added a letter from the director of law to the meeting27s reports. "It's been 40 years and 2 months, and I've worked with a lot of great people," he said in brief remarks, and thanked staff and council for their support.
Mayor Preston announced an interim appointment later in the meeting: he said he will interimly appoint Rob Bigner to act as law director while the city works through the central committee process for a permanent replacement. The mayor said Bigner has worked with the city for many years and that the administration will seek the central committee's support for a long-term appointment.
Councilmembers offered congratulations to Rasmussen. The council also noted plans for an open house to recognize his service and the administration said more details would follow.
No formal vote recorded for the appointment at the meeting; the mayor presented it as an interim executive appointment and said a central committee process will follow for long-term replacement.
